Prize - £10 to spend on designs at Meryl Makes
Our February showcase winner has won £10 worth of designs just for showcasing a project using a Meryl Makes Design.
Let me introduce you to Anne Hepworth.............
Anne lives in a small village in the corner of Essex, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire with her husband Graham and their cocker poo called Monty. They are surrounded by fields and her sewing room overlooks paddocks. They have two grown up married daughters with four grandchildren; twin boys aged 5 and two girls aged very nearly 5 and nearly 2.
Anne was a secondary school teacher of Food and Textiles so was used to a lot of lovely equipment around her! She had always sewn … her first machine was an Elna Lotus. This machine saw her through Home Ec. College. Before that her Mum had a Bernina which Anne would use most weekends for dressmaking. After many years happily using her Elna, Anne's husband bought her a Bernina Artista 170. Her hobby during her teaching years took Anne into patchwork and quilting. Quilts need labels so she thought a Brother 750e would suit her and machine embroidery was added to her skill set. This was soon upgraded to a v3 and a couple of years ago to the XV as Anne realised she could do lots more with bigger hoops and better software. Her Dream machine even accompanied her to Sheffield on the recent UK Machine Embroidery retreat. What fun they all had!!
Since retiring her time is spent mostly in the sewing room making all sorts of things. At the moment she is really enjoying making memory bears and having just completed her first in the hoop bear, Anne is always amazed at just how many things can be made in the hoop.
She runs a Chat N Stitch group in the village. Anne tells me they generally do their own thing, however they will soon be turning their attention to upcycling fabric into bunting to put up around the village for the VE day celebrations. A few of the members are also fulfilling a request to knit cannula sleeves for babies under a 1 year old. As well as these crafts, Anne likes yoga, dog walking, cooking for her lovely family, knitting and crochet.
Anne goes on to tell me "I love using Meryl’s light density designs to make cards. Her card designs are amazing. The violet umbrella card was made for Mum’s 93rd birthday. I will often use mylar to add a bit of sparkle; or in my case rescued helium balloons from the fields around us where we walk our dog Monty. The scan n cut gets brought into action to make frames, add features to highlight Meryl’s designs and turn each card into something that is unique and personal."
Anne, you are an inspiration to us all and we have so enjoyed hearing your story here at Meryl Makes.
Congratulations on being our February star.
